Opened in April 2007, Steve was formerly a mechanic for a national British125 GP team following the British Superbike Series. Having grown up around motorcycles and racing in the 250 Production class on a Suzuki X7 for a number of years, it was inevitable that he would train to be a motorcycle technician. Steve, from Hull in East Yorkshire, settled in Millisle in June 2006 with his wife, Lorna, a former driving instructor from Newtownards, after meeting and becoming firm friends with many of our local road racers, who he met at the Oliver’s Mount circuit in Scarborough.  After visiting the province on several occasions to spectate at the Ulster Grand Prix and North West 200, Steve was smitten and they made the decision to move here and commence building Steve’s workshop to the rear of their home on the outskirts of Millisle.

During the building, much of which Steve and Lorna did themselves, Steve helped out Jeremy McWilliams at Racebase, as a motorcycle technician, until the workshop was ready.

Both Steve and Lorna ride Honda CBR900 RRV Fireblade’s and the condition of their motorcycles testifies to the standard of Steve’s mechanical abilities and their interest in all things motorcycle!

Steve and Lorna are firm road and short circuit race fans, who even sponsor trophies at Clubmans and National meetings at Kirkistown and Bishopscourt Race Circuits, and have become familiar faces in many of the racing paddocks all over Ireland. Look out for the Steve Baker Motorcycles GSXR 600 in the Irish Supersport paddock again in 2009! They teamed up with Bangor man Kevin Briggs who is now competing in his second year of the 'Nationals', after finishing 4th in the Irish Supersport Cup and 19th overall in the Irish Supersport Championship.
